Crewe are interested in taking Burnley’s John Spicer on loan, but only if the Clarets grant the club permission to play him in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy games against Doncaster. As Burnley aren’t participating in that competition, that shouldn’t be a problem, paving the way for Crewe to bag the midfield man on loan, subject to his approval.

The 23-year old has found opportunities limited at Turf Moor this season, having made just 2 appearances. With a career record of 12 goals in 73 starts, Dario Gradi sees Spicer as the goalgetting midfielder he wants to take some pressure off the impressive duo of Nicky Maynard and Luke Varney.

When Spicer was at Bournemouth he was always a threat and created a lot. I think he was our top goalscorer when Burnley signed him and was playing midfield! He’ll be a top signing if you get him.
