Crewe Alexandra dropped back into the bottom four with a third successive defeat against Oldham Athletic at Gresty Road.

Substitute Conor Wilkinson scored the winner with sixteen minutes remaining when combining with Danny Philliskirk.

Former Latics goalkeeper Paul Rachubka earlier denied Rhys Turner after a solo break, while Nicky Ajose chipped onto the roof of the net at the other end after seizing upon Alan Tate’s searching pass.

Jamie Ness then delivered a free-kick and Jon Guthrie’s header was cleared off the line by Adam Lockwood.

Crewe’s Anthony Grant saw a powerful drive turned over by young goalkeeper Joel Coleman following the break and James Jones was similarly denied after Ness had already gone close.

However, the visitors secured maximum points courtesy of substitute Wilkinson late on, to keep their opponents still in serious relegation trouble.
