Crewe Alexandra have denied that any Crewe player was assaulted following Saturday’s away game in Bournemouth. Rumours did spread after a pitch invasion at the end of Saturday’s saw the Alex team struggling to get off the pitch. One rumour suggested that goalkeeper Ben Williams was assaulted by a Bournemouth fan, whilst other speculation included the likes of Tom Pope, Danny O’Donnell and Kenny Lunt.

It has been reported that one Alex fan spoke to police following the game and the police took the matter up with first team coach Steve Holland, who insisted none of his team were involved in any trouble.

A Crewe spokesman has reiterated that no trouble was encountered: “Cheshire Police were at the match and they did speak to Steve and the players afterwards. Although, there were a lot of fans on the pitch the players were able to get off without incident.”
