Joe Garner achieved a personal four-goal haul as Crewe Alexandra crashed 5-1 at promotion-chasing Preston North End.
Fellow forward Jermaine Beckford was also on target for the rampant hosts, while Ollie Turton replied.
Garner began the scoring with a low drive from the edge of the area after only eleven minutes.
He then met Paul Gallagher’s cross at the far post to double the advantage when George Ray lost possession midway through the half.
However, Turton slotted in from Marcus Haber’s clever pass to keep the visitors in touch eleven minutes before the break.
Crewe defender Harry Davis then cleared well after Beckford chipped over goalkeeper Paul Rachubka following the interval, while Haber converted Nicky Ajose’s pass but was denied by an assistant’s raised flag.
But hit-man Garner duly completed his hat-trick when curling into the far corner with eighteen minutes remaining, and soon tapped in another after Beckford struck against an upright following Ray being outmuscled.
On loan Bolton Wanderers forward Beckford then added goal number five when allowed space to draw Rachubka and fire into the net with eight minutes left.
