Crewe Alexandra moved off the bottom of the table with a third straight victory after promotion hopefuls Peterborough United finished with nine players in a 1-0 defeat at Gresty Road.
Recalled striker Marcus Haber scored the only goal from a first-half penalty following Michael Bostwick being dismissed for fouling Adam Dugdale at a corner.
Posh goalkeeper Ben Alnwick had already just denied a George Ray header, while Haber and Brad Inman were similarly kept out before the interval.
Inman then missed a late chance to seal it following good work from substitute George Cooper before the already cautioned Jack Baldwin received his marching orders for fouling Ollie Turton in added time.
Despite their numerical disadvantage the visitors earlier saw Joe Newell’s effort deflected wide while Ben Garratt turned aside an angled drive from Conor Washington.
However, Crewe remained firm throughout to record successive clean-sheets and a third consecutive win lifting them a couple of places up the table.
