Crewe Alexandra are off the bottom of the table with a hard-fought scoreless draw against Bury at Gigg Lane.

Leon Clarke went close for the hosts on a couple of occasions while Ben Garratt kept both he and former Alex striker Tom Pope out early on.

Visiting goalkeeper Garratt was called into immediate action inside the first couple of minutes when blocking Clarke’s curled attempt.

Andrew Tutte next hoisted over and Tom Soares was denied at close-range by Garratt as their side dominated.

Kelvin Etuhu was then too high and Clarke knocked over Chris Hussey’s delivery from a couple of yards.

Ryan Colclough struck narrowly wide at the opposite end just prior to the interval, although Clarke then found the inside of an upright from Pope’s assist.

Both Soares and Clarke proved wayward again, and the hosts could have suffered the consequences when in the final minute Marcus Haber was thwarted on the line by Reece Brown.
