There have been four competitive fixtures on August 6th in the 25-year period, taking place in 2005, 2011, 2013 and 2016.

In the opening game of the 2005/06 season, Crewe Alexandra beat Burnley 2-1 at the Alexandra Stadium. Billy Jones gave the hosts the lead a minute before the break before Gifton Noel-Williams levelled the game mid-way through the second period with David Vaughan scoring the winner in the 89th minute.

In the opening game of the 2011/12 season, Crewe Alexandra travelled to the County Ground and lost 3-0 at Swindon Town. Callum Kennedy scored a penalty on the stroke of half-time past Steve Phillips before second half goals from Oliver Risser and Aden Flint sealed the points for the hosts.

A couple of years later saw Crewe travel to Bury for the 1st round of the League Cup at Gigg Lane. Chuks Aneke scored the first goal of his second season on loan with the Railwaymen in the 5th minute before Shaun Beeley levelled the game up 15 minutes later. Bury took the lead through a Shaun Harrad penalty on the half hour before Richard Hinds extended the lead 4 minutes after the break. Harry Davis scored a penalty 15 minutes from time but Crewe couldn`t force an equaliser.

In the opening game of last season, Crewe Alexandra travelled to the Lamex Stadium to face Stevenage. Captain Ryan Lowe opened the scoring in his third spell with the club in the 64th minute before substitute Alex Kiwomya scored an amazing solo goal 10 minutes from time to extend the lead before Charlie Lee scored in stoppage time as Crewe won on the opening day for the first time in what felt like forever.
