After no games taking place in the last 25 years taking place on August 4th there was no column yesterday but it`s back today. There has only been the one competitive fixture on August 5th in the 25-year period, taking place in 2006.
In the opening game of the 2006/07 season, Crewe Alexandra and Northampton Town played out a 2-2 draw at the Alexandra Stadium. The hosts took the lead in the 7th minute as new signing Ryan Lowe scored the opening goal of the season before Scott McLeish levelled 5 minutes later. David Vaughan gave Crewe the lead again in the 19th minute with Northern Irish striker Andy Kirk wrapping up the scoring just before the break.
