In the first of a (mostly) daily column, we are going to have a look at what has happened on this day in Crewe Alexandra`s fixtures in the last 25 years. There has only been the one competitive fixture on August 3rd in the 25-year period, taking place in 2013.

In the opening game of the 2013/14 season, Crewe Alexandra and Rotherham United played out a 3-3 draw at the Alexandra Stadium. The hosts took the lead in the 3rd minute as new signing Anthony Grant scored from outside the area via the back of former Alex midfielder Michael O`Connor before Max Clayton extended the lead 5 minutes later getting on the end of AJ Leitch-Smith`s low cross.

Lee Frecklington halved the deficit a minute after that as a corner was cleared to the edge of the area to the midfielder who volleyed it home before Harry Davis restored the 2-goal lead with a penalty in the early minutes of the second half following Richard Brindley bringing down Ryan Colclough.

That was all the scoring until the final 5 minutes where Ben Pringle`s guided effort cutting in from the right-wing brought Rotherham back into the game and Frecklington with another strike from outside the area gave the Millers a share of the spoils.
