There have been five competitive fixtures on August 23rd in the 25-year period, taking place in 2003, 2005, 2008, 2014 and 2016.

Starting with the game in 2003 where we travelled to Millwall with Dean Ashton gave the Alex just before the hour-mark with Noel Whelan equalising in second-half stoppage-time.

Lee Beevers and Maheta Molango gave Lincoln a 2-goal lead before Richard Walker halved the deficit on the stroke of half-time. 2 goals from Gary Birch and one from Marvin Robinson completed the rout for Lincoln.

The final game is a trip to Blackburn in the League Cup from last season. Billy Bingham and Chris Dagnall gave Crewe a 2-goal lead before Hope Akpan gave Blackburn a chance 3 minutes before half-time. Goals from Scott Wharton and Craig Conway gave Blackburn the lead, the latter`s goal 3 minutes from time looked to have given the hosts the win, before Dagnall added his second of the game in second-half stoppage-time. Shane Duffy scored in the 97th minute to send Rovers through.
