There have been six competitive fixtures on August 12th in the 25-year period, taking place in 2000, 2003, 2006, 2008, 2014 and 2015.

In the opening game of the 2000/01 season, Crewe Alexandra travelled to Craven Cottage to face Fulham. Barry Hayles opened the scoring for the hosts in the 64th minute before Louis Saha sealed the win 9 minutes later.

Fulham: Taylor; Finnan, Melville, Coleman, Brevett; Goldbaek, Clark (Fernandes 83), Collins, Lewis, Boa Morte (Hayles 59); Saha (Betsy 76)

3 years later, Crewe hosted Wrexham in the 1st Round of the League Cup at the Alexandra Stadium. Second half goals from Dean Ashton (a 54th minute penalty) and Steve Jones 2 minutes from time were enough to send the Railwaymen through to Round 2.

In 2006, Crewe travelled to Glanford Park to face Scunthorpe United. Luke Rodgers gave the visitors the lead from the penalty spot on the half-hour mark before Billy Sharp levelled the game 9 minutes later. Crewe retook the lead 4 minutes into the second period before Andy Crosby scored from the spot to earn a share of the points.

2 years later saw Crewe Alexandra host Barnsley in the EFL Cup. First half penalties from Michael O`Connor and Anthony Elding saw Crewe into Round 2.

Barnsley: Steele; Hassall (Macken 63), Foster, Moore, Sousa; Kozluk (Mostto 82), Devaney, Howard, Leon Ayarza; Hume, Rigters (Odejayi 69)

2014 would see Barnsley drawn against Crewe again in the League Cup. Billy Waters opened the scoring for the Alex in the 32nd minute whilst Matt Tootle saw the visitors through with a goal 6 minutes from time.

A year later would see Crewe host Preston North End in the League Cup. Jordan Hugill gave Preston the lead on 5 minutes with a penalty before Will Keane added a second 8 minutes later. Adam King halved the deficit whilst the only goal of the second half came in the 86th minute from Preston`s Adam Brownhill.
