If his first month on loan at Crewe Alexandra, is anything to go by Alex Kiwomya is certainly one to watch. His silky dribbling skills, two breathtaking solo goals and game changing ability, saw him nominated for the Sky Bet League Two Player of the Month (PotM) award. The three other shortlisted players were, Doncaster Rovers’ James Coppinger, Brennan Dickenson of Colchester United and Barry Roche from Morecambe.

The majority of fans predicted Kiwomya to come out of August with the first player award on offer. He won the official Sky Bet League Two twitter poll, with 58% of the four thousand and three (4,003) votes going his way – 2,322 people believing he should have clinched the award. The winner transpired to be, 35 year old, James Coppinger who is hoping to mark his five hundredth (500th) Doncaster Rovers. He got his 13th (thirteenth) season at Rovers of to a great start, scoring two goals and setting up another three.

I was backing Alex Kiwomya to be the Player of the Month in August, with his electric dribbling and quick feet, Kiwomya has become a firm Alex favourite of mine and many other supporters. He is the first person since Nick Powell, whose played for Crewe Alexandra, that has put me on the edge of my seat and who I expect the unexpected from. If he stays fit and keeps developing his weaknesses and improving his strengths, Alex Kiwomya has a big future in the game. He clearly has the determination and confidence to do so, stating on his Twitter account ‘always next month’. His Twitter name is @Golden_Kiwomya and Kiwomya has certainly been golden for the Railwaymen thus far.

His superb solo strike at Newport saw him nominated for Goal of the Month in league two. Personally, I believe his strike has a decent chance of clinching him an award though his goal at Stevenage may have stood him in better stead going into the public vote. The goal if you haven’t seen it, started with Kiwomya bursting from his own half to the edge of the box, beating two players, then slotting the ball calmly home on his left foot – Boro’s ‘keeper Jamie Jones simply beaten by accuracy. His rivals for the goal of the month award are Cheltenham Town’s Dan O’Shaughnessy and Plymouth Argyle’s Graham Carey – both the strikes against Mansfield Town.

Hopefully, from a Crewe Alexandra Supporter’s point of view, Alex Kiwomya can keep up his fine form in front of goal and on the wing. However my one concern would be, with him only being on a six-month loan deal, will other clubs be vying for his signature when his first period at the club expires in January. Also if they do, will we be able to keep him, and will he want to stay. I hope so, but only time can possibly tell. I mentioned his big future in football and hope, we can extend the deal so, one year of his career will be as a Railwayman – not just six months.
