Crewe Alexandra have reportedly accepted a bid of in the region of £1m for skipper Luke Murphy from Blackburn Rovers.

“There has now been another bid made from an unnamed Championship club and we are in the process of looking through that” – Steve Davis

Murphy, 23, helped the Alex to a respectable mid-table finish on their return to League One last term and also to the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy at Wembley – scoring in their final victory against Southend United.

Wolverhampton Wanderers had been favourites to secure his signature following their recent relegation. But it now appears that Championship outfit Blackburn have jumped right to the front of the queue.

“Wolves made a bid that was acceptable to the club and they were given permission to speak with Luke and his agent,” Crewe manager Steve Davis earlier told BBC Radio Stoke. “There has now been another bid made from an unnamed Championship club and we are in the process of looking through that.

“Nothing has been accepted with that one,” he continued. “There has been interest in Luke but no other firm offers. If we can reach an agreement with the other club, then Luke would be free to speak to them.”
