Neil Cox has turned down a job with a ‘decent Premier League club’ next season following his decision to retire. The 36 year old announced earlier in the month he was to retire from playing at the end of the current season, with Saturday looking like his final game.

Cox was surprised though when he received a job offer from what he calls ‘a decent Premier League club’. However, Cox has stuck to his word saying he wants to take time out to spend with his family before returning to the game.

Speaking to BBC Radio Stoke, Cox said: ‘A decent Premier League club has come in with the offer to do a few things for them. It was a bit of a shock,’ he told BBC Radio Stoke.

‘It was nice to get the phone call, but I’ve told them that I need a break to relax and spend time with the family.’

Cox has previously been linked to management jobs at Scunthorpe and Port Vale, with it being known he has an interest in going into management at some point.
