Crewe defender Neil Cox is being touted as a leading candidate for the vacant managerial post at Scunthorpe United. The Scunthorpe born veteran began his career with the Iron, where he made 25 appearances before making a £400,000 move to Aston Villa.

Scunthorpe are currently managerless, having lost Brian Laws to Sheffield Wednesday. 35-year old Cox is currently in the fifth month of his two-year deal at Crewe. However, Crewe boss Dario Gradi admits that he is unsure of whether Cox would like to move into management so soon, ‘Although I think he would have the qualities to become a manager, I’m not greatly in favour of people playing one day and then managing the next. But I have no idea what he wants to do.’
