Cox Backs Outsider

Ex-Alex captain Neil Cox says the club now needs to look at ‘an outsider’ to come in with fresh ideas.

Cox spoke today following Tuesday’s news that Dario would return as caretaker manager, with Steve Holland stepping down.

He told Radio Stoke that the club need someone from outside to bring in fresh ideas, but he doesn’t feel it’ll be that easy with Dario’s involvement at the club.

Speaking to Radio Stoke, Cox said: ‘[Dario] has major experience of the football club but I’m not sure that’s the way to go.

‘Maybe the club need a change all together, someone from outside to bring new ideas into the club.

‘For now Dario will do a good job, but long-term maybe someone from outside the club should come in as manager.

‘It’s a matter if Dario will help bring people into the club because a problem you are always going to have is the say he has there.’

There has been no progression on the search for a new manager. Early rumours suggest that former Alex favourite David Platt and Burton Albion manager Nigel Clough are front runners for the job, but the club remain tight lipped over the situation.
