Steve Cotterill has ruled himself out of the manager’s job at Gresty Road following rumours that his appointment was imminent.
Speculation that he would be appointed as Steve Holland’s successor grew following talk at Saturday’s home game to Swindon but the former Stokie says that the rumours are well wide of the mark.
Speaking to SkySports.com, Cotterill said: ‘It is wide of the mark,
‘I have not applied for the job and I am not planning to.
‘I wish them all the best in their search, but it is not something I would be interested in.
‘I think this is just gossip you get in football and you can’t do anything about it.’
Cotterill made his name as Cheltenham Town manager, bringing them into the Football League in 1999. He followed it up with his third Robins promotion into League One in 2002. He has since managed at Stoke City and Burnley.
It now looks as though the board are set to meet several candidates for the job as they start the interviewing process. Who those candidates are is unknown, but former Cheltenham boss John Ward never seems to be far away from being mentioned.
