Constantine move back on?

Crewe Vital understands that Leon Constantine move to Leeds United is on the brink of collapsing. The 29 year old former Port Vale striker has been on trial with the Yorkshire club. It is believed that the player has become increasingly concerned that as of yet his future has been sorted out.

A contract for Constantine is believed to be on the table from Leeds United but they are still unable to sign players as they are awaiting Football League approval so that they can start their 2007/08 League One Campaign at Tranmere Rovers on August 11th

A decision on the future of Leeds United is excepted in the coming days but with just over a week to the big kick off it`s believed that 6ft Striker could consider other options. His agent had sounded out a possible move to Crewe before his trial with Leeds and it is possible that Crewe could make a renewed offer to him.

Last season he hit 26 goals for Port Vale and he would be an ideal replacement for Luke Varney who left to join Charlton in the summer. Crewe`s lack of presence up front has been concern and the management team have stepped up the search for a new striker ahead of the new season.

Big respect to the club if they pull this off, but I just can’t see it happening. Surely his wages would be out of our league?

Played for Port Vale, Southend, Torquay, Brentford and Peterbrough over the past few years so I don’t think we’ll have trouble matching what he’s been on, but whether he’s after a big pay rise is another issue. Would be an excellent signing though, if we could get 26-goal Constantine whilst Vale are stuck with £30k Luke Rodgers… that’d be quite a swap. Like I said last time this story was about, I think we should just make him an offer to sit on anyway, don’t wait around for him to make his availability known.

wages will be an issue. also he wanted championship football. but if leeds don’t come good he may have to take what is on the table with only a week till the start of the new season.

Leon wanted Championship football, but Championship football wasn’t that keen on him! It wouldn’t surprise me if he walked away from Leeds, so you’d be in with a chance. I’d personally love him to go to you! That would be cracking!

We were paying him just over a thousand a week I think (Vale). He did have a far better offer from Brighton apparently during the January transfer window but turned it down because he wanted Championship football. He might well be open to offers at the moment!
