Luke Rodgers moved one step closer to the Gresty Road exit door today following the news that Leon Constantine is to join Barnsley from Port Vale. Port Vale have met Crewe’s valuation of Rodgers – £30,000 – and are now free to talk to the striker.

Port Vale join Hereford, Swindon and Leyton Orient in having bids accepted for the striker, but Rodgers is unwilling to drop down a league leaving 11th placed Vale as favourites to sign Rodgers.

However, with Nicky Maynard a doubt for tomorrow’s game against Bournemouth, Rodgers may play some part in tomorrow’s game in what is likely to be his last for the club.
