As exclusively revealed by Vital Crewe last night, the club have accepted a bid from Scunthorpe for midfielder Michael O’Connor.

Thought to be around the £100,000 mark, the deal will see O’Connor leave the club after seven years. After progressing through the academy O’Connor has gone on to make over 70 starts for Crewe since his debut in February 2006.

The last couple of seasons have seen him play a major role in the Alex midfield, earning him various call ups to the senior Northern Ireland squad.

It was in February of this year that his Alex career started to come to an end. Rumours of practical jokes gone wrong and a bust up with new manager Gudjon Thordarson, Occy was immediately loaned out to League Two side Lincoln City for the final months of the season.

The end of April saw O’Connor on trial at Hibs as he publicly admitted he was seeking a move away from Gresty Road whilst Lincoln offered him a season long loan deal.

Last month Scunthorpe made their interest known and it looks like this week has seen them step up the chase.

It’s expected O’Connor will complete his move later today.

As for the money, surely it now gives Gudjon room to make a few quick fire signings?
