Crewe Alexandra’s on loan defender Semi Ajayi admits self-belief is going to be key in their fight for survival.

The Railwaymen are currently bottom of the table and six points from safety with over half of their season now played.

“Confidence is massive,” Ajayi told BBC Radio Stoke. “It’s key – you just try not to get nervous and once the team gets confidence, we’ll start flying.

“It’s definitely a relegation battle, we need to get out of this dogfight,” he added. “We have to roll our sleeves up and get out of it – everyone wants to put that last defeat behind them and I think we’ll have a really good reaction.”

Nigerian-born Ajayi, 22, recently extended his loan stay from Cardiff City until 26th February and has five appearances since arriving in November.
