Goalkeeper Steve Collis says his preferred destination is Crewe as he mulls over a contract offer. The 27 year old keeper, who was recently released by Southend, had talks at the Alex a week ago but having promised the club an answer by the weekend it seems there’s still some negotiating to do.

The 6ft 4in giant admits he’s had other offers since but is hoping he can finalize a deal at Gresty Road where he’d become number one for the start of the season.

Collis told superalex.co.uk: ‘It’s just a matter of finalising personal terms, so hopefully a deal can be done.

‘I have had other offers, but I’m hopeful of sorting something out with Crewe. It looks likely to go ahead, but in football you never know until it’s signed.’

The Alex have already been snubbed by the likes of Greg Fleming (Oldham) and Steve Mildenhall (Southend) this summer, and with only rookie keeper Adam Legzdins fit and ready for the start of the start of the season filling the number one spot has been a priority.
