Man City, Newcastle and Birmingham are keeping a close eye on the situation of Crewe’s 18-year old Billy Jones. Although the determined youngster started his career as a defender, he has impressed in midfield this season, top scoring for Crewe in the process with 6 goals. It now appears that his performances have alerted various Premiership clubs, with Fulham, Aston Villa and Blackburn also keeping a watchful eye on the combative midfielder. Jones’ versatility is an undoubted asset, with the youngster able to play in midfield, as well as a full back or centre back.

With the impending likelihood of relegation certain to raise doubts over where Billy’s future lies, Crewe boss Dario Gradi is likely to recommend that the youngster continues to progress at Crewe before moving onto bigger things. Jones, who has previously been linked with Liverpool and Man Utd, has represented England throughout his age-groups, often as captain.

However, it is believed that no approaches have been made, with numerous clubs instead monitoring the youngster, who undoubtedly has a promising future in the game.
