Cheap Summer For Alex

Gudjon’s budget for the summer will be small after Steve Holland blew all the money last year.

Holland spent a reported £800,000 on the likes of Calvin Zola, Anthony Elding and Joel Grant last summer only to get the boot just a few months later, and ultimately see the Alex relegated to League Two.

There’s now no room for that sort of spending and after letting ten first team players leave Gresty Road this week Gudjon Thordarson will be relying on loans and bargain basement signings to build that promotion winning squad.

With just four recognised defenders remaining at the club it’s obvious where Gudjon’s biggest task in the transfer market lies, but other areas will also need to be strengthened. There are still concerns over the goalkeeping jersey and if Steve Collis is good enough.

Meanwhile, Gudjon is set to sound out Reading and Gylfi Sigurdsson over a return to Gresty Road for the youngster next season after a fairly impressive spell towards the end of this season.
