Character At Crewe Second To None

John Ruddy has praised manager Gudjon Thordarson having seen two spirited fight backs from the team this week. The loan keeper from Everton hasn’t personally had the best of weeks, two poor mistakes gave Leeds and MK Dons a goal each but he remains one of the more talented keepers we’ve had at Gresty Road for some years.

Thankfully the men in front of him have saved him from any major embarrassment, saving a point on Tuesday when all looked lost after just 20 minutes.

After Saturday’s second half come back from 3-0 down to dirty Leeds to 3-2, unlucky to not get a point, our trip to MK Dons on Tuesday evening saw an even more spectacular come back – coming from 2-0 down to score two in five minutes with just 10 minutes left.

Ruddy says the character of the team is something he’s not witnessed in his career, saying it’s ‘second to none’. Ruddy told BBC Radio Stoke:

Of all the clubs I’ve been at, the character here at Crewe is second to none because of the way they’ve got themselves out of trouble. The manager has been brilliant with me. He told me what he wanted and I think I’ve shown that in the last 13 games.

‘We know that we’re good enough to get points on the board. If you start to look forward more to some games than others, you’ll drop points.’

It’s a shame that Gudjon has pretty much confirmed that it looks like Ruddy will be out of our reach for a season long loan next season with Everton likely to get him fixed up at a Championship club. However, as reported on Vital Crewe earlier in the week, Gudjon has already spoken to a Championship keeper about a permanent deal that could be completed in the summer.

Meanwhile reserve shot stopper Adam Legzdins has signed for struggling Blue Square Premier outfit Weymouth for the rest of the season. Legzdins signed from Birmingham on a free in the summer but is yet to make a first team appearance.

He leaves with Josh Thompson, who left for a loan stint at Cammell Laird today.
