Crewe Alexandra’s three resident goalkeepers will be vying for a place following on loan Neil Etheridge’s unfortunate injury.

“I would certainly look at bringing him back and seeing if he can carry on where he left off” – Steve Davis

The Fulham shot-stopper was expected to be sidelined for around a month with a thigh problem, which in turn virtually ends his current agreement as he undergoes treatment back in the capital.

As a result, Steve Phillips, Alan Martin and Ben Garratt compete for the number one position having each already featured this season, although Etheridge could yet return at some stage after really impressing manager Steve Davis.

“If he is unable to play for us again then I hope we could do something when he is fully fit again,” he told Crewe’s official website. “I would certainly look at bringing him back and seeing if he can carry on where he left off. He is a super lad and a good goalkeeper.”
