Calling For Holland’s Resignation

I’ve never before wanted a Crewe Alexandra manager out of his job, but I now see no alternative.

I’m not into knee jerk reactions. I never particularly wanted Dario to step down as manager and I gave Holland my patience right up till a month ago. However, in a very long spell in which most other managers would have received the sack at least 10 months ago, I really see no light at the end of the tunnel.

I think Holland is showing himself up to be a pretty dire manager, and probably through no fault of his own. At 36 he was thrown into the job with just a season of shadowing Dario and Neil Baker. He’d had next to zero experience of first team management, and the same could be said for his professional footballing career (he retired at 21).

These aren’t digs at Holland, I genuinely like the guy and don’t want to see this turn nasty from a group of fans who may not take long to go down that route. We mustn’t forget he’s been a great servant for the club, seeing the likes of Dean Ashton, Danny Murphy, Rob Hulse and Nicky Maynard through the academy, he is a fantastic coach – no doubt about that. It’s just clear he has no qualifications for the manager’s job and in hindsight really should have had a minimum of 3 years as Dario’s assistant manager before being given the job.

Tonight’s defeat at Yeovil put us rock bottom of League One. We’re 12 games in and, let’s face it, this is far from just a ‘bad patch’. Relegation to this league wasn’t nice but I think relegation to League Two would be devastating for this club, and I don’t want to see that.

I’m not sure if Holland should be the only one to go neither, Gradi and Chairman John Bowler are accountable for much of the last 3 or 4 years but they can change the direction of this club, whether they will do is very doubtful.

For now though I’d like Holland to do the right thing. It’s time to go, and if he’s reading he has to know if he goes now he goes with everyone’s best wishes!
