Centre back Jake Buxton has another week to try and earn himself a contract at Gresty Road. The former Mansfield Town captain has impressed Steve Holland enough to take a further look.
The 23 year old played in the midweek friendly at Quorn and looked steady; Holland will now test him in next week’s friendly at Wrexham as he searches for a new defensive ‘rock’.
After an appalling defensive record over the past four seasons, Holland wants a more consistent centre back to partner captain Julien Baudet. Holland told BBC Radio Stoke that he’s still to see if Buxton is the one he wants:
‘Julien Baudet was consistent last year and we need a man to go alongside him.
‘We’ll see if Jake can fit the bill. The players we have are good enough but at the minute are inconsistent.’
