Calvin Zola fired himself to the top of the league’s goalscoring charts this afternoon as Steve Schumacher and Danny Shelley completed a big win for the Alex.

The big Congo forward started the scoring for the Railwaymen on the half hour mark before completing it on 74 minutes. Schuey and Shelley added goals either side of half time.

The result perhaps could be described as kind on Cheltenham who, despite hitting the woodwork twice, were never in the frame to take the three points.

Meanwhile stand in keeper Adam Legzdins set out to prove a point as Dario looks set to complete the loan signing of Steve Phillips next week. Lego made a series of decent stops after being a late name on the team sheet due to an illness to Steve Collis. Today marked the first clean sheet since August when, ironically, it was Adam Legzdins keeping nets against Hereford.

One man pleased more than most will be Dario Gradi, celebrating his second win in his latest spell as manager. The man from Milan told the official site post-match that he was particularly pleased with both defence and attack;

‘That is the best our centre-half’s have done this season in the second half. I was pleased with them and you can see that it is improving there. Saying that at the other end, the attacking play was very good. We have scored four goals and could have scored a few more as well.

‘What you want from a goalkeeper is to show that they are a good and reliable goalkeeper and now Adam has to keep that going and continue like that.

‘We have a goalkeeper lined up to come in earlier next week on loan, so there is real competition for places there.’

Attentions now turn to the FA Cup trip to York City next week. Today’s win has got to be built on and we couldn’t ask for a better opportunity than one against a Blue Square Premier club who lost to Crawley 3-1 this afternoon.
