Crewe Alexandra will come up against the not inconsiderable threat of their former striker Clayton Donaldson when visiting Brentford this weekend.

“He can score goals so he will be a threat when we come up against him” – Steve Davis

The one-time York City and Hibernian striker left Gresty Road in the summer of 2011 after being leading scorer in League Two as he wanted to play at a higher level.

Donaldson had been named player of the season for the Alex that year and in total managed 49 goals in 130 games during a three-year stay with the club.

“He is a wholehearted player who gives 100% and is a good athlete, very quick,” said manager Steve Davis to Crewe’s official website. “As we know he can score goals so he will be a threat when we come up against him.”

The 28-year-old forward scored eleven times in 51 games for the Bees last season and also netted their consolation during a midweek 3-1 home defeat to Yeovil Town.
