Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis was pleased by a battling display as the visitors returned to winning ways with a 2-1 victory at Colchester United.

“It had to be a real battling and hard working performance from us” – Steve Davis

A first-half penalty from Luke Murphy was later added to by leading goalscorer Mathias Pogba to bring up a half-century of points for the Railwaymen this season.

“It was a good three points for us because this is never an easy place to come,” Davis admitted to Crewe’s official website. “They have been in a decent run of form and are fighting for their lives.

“It had to be a real battling and hard working performance from us and it was,” he added. “We have come through it and made sure we haven’t lost three in a row.”
