Crewe Alexandra search for a league double over big rivals Port Vale when visiting Vale Park on Saturday afternoon.

“Everything about this game is a bit more hyped with the build-up” – Steve Davis

Defender Jon Guthrie was expected to miss out due to a knee problem, with Adam Dugdale, George Ray and Anthony Stewart contesting a recall in his probable absence.

Meanwhile, skipper Matt Tootle is also unlikely to appear as he continues his
own return to fitness following three months on the sidelines.

“It is just a great game to be involved in,” manager Steve Davis told BBC Radio Stoke. “The one everyone looks forward to. They are in decent form and so are we, so it just adds to the occasion.

“Everything about this game is a bit more hyped with the build-up in the press,” he added. “But we are just focused on getting a good result.”

Former Crewe striker Tom Pope may be recalled on the bench for the hosts after a thirteen-game absence because of a knee injury.
