Crewe Alexandra are being linked with a surprise move for former striker Dele Adebola.

Alex staff have already identified the need for a big man up front and the 36-year-old could fill the role.

The Nigerian-born marksman originally helped the club to promotion during the mid-90s until leaving for Birmingham City in a £1m deal.

Since then he’s had spells at a number of clubs, including Coventry City, Bristol City and Nottingham Forest but has been released by Hull City after only a couple of starts last season.

“I’m not sure he fits into the mobile bracket but he’s massive, has loads of experience and knows the Crewe way,” manager Steve Davis told the Crewe Chronicle. “People like that have been on big wages which will always be a problem, but you don’t know what his expectations are now.

“We’ve talked about him, but he’ll have other offers far bigger than ours on the table,” he warned. “But you never know, I’d never rule anything out.”
