Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis has asked supporters to remain positive ahead of the weekend home meeting with Shrewsbury Town.

“It definitely affects their confidence” – Steve Davis

Davis wasn’t best pleased when some of the fans showed their dissatisfaction during the recent surprise defeat to struggling Portsmouth at Gresty Road.

He has instead requested they remain positive whenever possible in order to avoid affecting his younger players’ confidence.

“It’s not just at Crewe, it’s everywhere,” Davis told the Crewe Chronicle. “They pay their hard-earned money and have the right to voice their opinions but it doesn’t help the young players. It definitely affects their confidence.

“But positivity rubs off on the players,” he continued. “That’s how I am around the place and it is infectious. I hope our fans can be like that too when things aren’t going to plan.”
