Barnsley Defeat Alex In Under-23s Action

|

A goal from Tyreece Onyeka was not enough for Crewe Alexandra to get anything out of their Under-23s Professional Development League game at Barnsley thanks to goals by Cameron Thompson and Charlie Winfield.

With this evening’s EFL Trophy game against Hull City, manager Alex Morris named Sam Booth in goal with a back 4 of Lewis Billington, Connor O’Riordan, Fenton Green and Michael Williams. In midfield were Joe Robbins, Matt McDonald and Joe Levey while Bailey Marsden and Onyeka played either side of Connor Salisbury.

The opening goal of the game came in the 48th minute with Thompson heading home a Winfield corner before the provider turned scorer as he turned in Jordan Green’s cross. The Alex goal came 19 minutes from time as Onyeka scored via a deflection.

The next scheduled games at this level sees a trip to Sheffield Wednesday next Tuesday (15th) before a home game against Nottingham Forest at Reaseheath the following Monday, both games kicking off at 1:00 pm.
