Dario and Steve Holland set their sights on bringing in two more centre backs this summer with Danny O’Donnell and Chris McCready top of their list. With the O’Donnell transfer dragging on though they were forced to search for extra targets.

In mind was young Mansfield centre back Alex John-Baptiste, whose contract had run out this summer. However, a stumbling block arose when Mansfield asked for £250,000 as compensation and his agent started touting him to extra clubs.

Once Danny O’Donnell had completed his move though interest was dropped in the Norwich City target as Dario feels Baudet, McCready and O’Donnell provide adequate service for the defence.

Dario told The Sentinel: ‘We won’t sign Baptiste. Mansfield want a substantial amount of money for their boy. His agent was keen on bringing him down here but I have avoided that.’
