Baker Linked With Vale

Assistant manager Neil Baker is said to be one of the main men in the frame for the Port Vale manager’s job.

Baker, who has been Dario’s assistant for over 10 years, is known to have been interested in stepping up to a managers job. With Martin Foyle leaving Vale earlier this week, it is only natural that ‘Bakes’ is linked.

Last season Baker was offered the Academy Director’s job at Stoke City, whom he’s a life long supporter of, but decided to turn the job down to be part of the new managemnet regime at Gresty Road.

However, a manager’s job could be too good to turn down for Baker, having had a taste of a managers life in 2003 when Dario went into hospital.

Whether or not Vale will take the gamble on a untried man like Bakes, or whether Baker has indeed applied for the job remains to be seen.
