Neil Baker says he’s pleased to be back in the first team picture under Dario having been ousted by Gudjon Thordarson.

Baker, who’s been with the club for over 15 years as Dario’s assistant, was relegated to a ‘Chief Scout’ role over the summer as Gudjon favoured a new assistant manager in the mould of Steve Davis.

Upon Gudjon’s sacking 10 days ago the first change Dario put in place was bringing Neil Baker back to the training ground. Bakes told the official website crewealex.net that there’s no substitute for being involved daily:

‘It is great to be involved with the first team again because everyone wants to be out on the training ground and coaching the players.

‘I did enjoy my role, scouting potential players and watching games. I enjoy watching games and learning things from it – but there is no substitute to be involved.’

Meanwhile Baker spoke about giving goalkeeper Peter Brezovan a trial at the club. With loanee David Button currently holding the number one shirt and Steve Collis out of the first team picture altogether it leaves us with just young Adam Legzdins as back up.

Baker says that Berozvan will get a fair chance to earn himself a contract at Gresty Road:

‘I am surprised that Peter hasn’t got himself fixed up with a club this summer.

‘If he can improve us then great. He has come over and will be thrown in at the deep end a bit but that is what happens with trialists.’
