As announced on Leek Town‘s official site yesterday morning, long-serving Crewe Alexandra staff member Neil Baker has been appointed manager of Northern Premier League Division One South club Leek Town. He will be assisted by Jamie Cullerton and first team coach Simon Bell in the club’s 9th successive season in the 8th tier.

Baker, known best to fans as Dario Gradi‘s assistant for around 20 years, takes charge of the Staffordshire-based club for the third time in his career having had a spell between 1986 and 1994 as well as a time in 2011 during Gudjon Thordarson and Steve Davis‘ reign in charge at the Alexandra Stadium.

Leek Town chairman Jon Eeles had this to say on Baker’s appointment:
This is a massive appointment for the Club and I hope the fan base will agree that it has been worth the wait over the last week, all the relevant parties have now been consulted including all the senior and long serving players.

The appointment demonstrates our intent and will generate a massive buzz around the Club. Further announcements will be made in due course but is now time for us all to focus on next season and give full support to the new management team

Baker will take charge of Leek who have a few connections to Crewe with former Academy Graduates Toby Mullarkey and Danny Shelley playing for the club as well as Crewe Alex Soccer Centre staff member Ryan Dicker.
