Following their successful weekend Wembley exploits, Crewe Alexandra return to league action with a visit from fourth-placed Brentford this evening.

“We now have six cup finals and we have to give it everything we’ve got” – Steve Davis

The hosts continue to check on the progress of skipper Luke Murphy (fatigue) and full-back Kelvin Mellor (toe) following their Johnstone’s Paint Trophy triumph on Sunday. But leading scorer Mathias Pogba (thigh) has already been ruled out for the remainder of the season.

Meanwhile, Mark Ellis (ankle) and Chuks Aneke (fatigue) might also miss out and Adam Dugdale isn’t due back in to training until next week. On loan Tottenham Hotspur full-back Kevin Stewart is standing by for a recall.

Manager Steve Davis still wasn’t ruling out a third Wembley visit inside twelve months for his club as he continues to plot a late charge into the play-offs.

“I won’t write it off. We’ll see if we can get the results we need,” he told the Crewe Chronicle. “We’ve got to win every game but we can sneak in. Others will have to slip up but we have to play teams near the top and they have to play each other too.

“It’s hard to get refocused after a cup final but we now have six cup finals and we have to give it everything we’ve got,” Davis admitted. “We owe that to ourselves and our supporters.”

Brentford hope midfielder Jonathan Douglas recovers from the knock suffered in the weekend 1-1 draw at Coventry City.

However, goalkeeper Richard Lee (shoulder) and defender Scott Barron (hip) are already ruled out while Farid El Alagui could return.
