Back-To-Back Clean Sheets Not Enough To Take Alex Top

|

Crewe Alexandra got their second consecutive clean sheet with a goalless draw at The New Lawn against Forest Green Rovers last night, a result that sees Swindon Town remain top of the league.

Manager David Artell made 2 changes from Saturday’s thrashing of Morecambe as Eddie Nolan came in at the back with Paul Green returning into midfield as Christian Mbulu and Ollie Finney dropped down to the bench.

In a game with few chances, it was Owen Dale who was causing left-back Liam Kitching problems with his directness while Chris Porter would chip wide of the goal following Joe Wollacott’s poor clearance.

10 minutes after the break saw Ryan Wintle hit the post from outside the area with a curled drive before Matt Stevens headed wide from Kitching’s delivery minutes later.

We have two trips in the next couple of games with our televised FA Cup game at Eastleigh on Saturday evening before a return to league action at Macclesfield Town the following weekend.

What can we learn from this game?

To be honest, it was a game between two equally-matched teams that neither side really deserved to win with neither goalkeeper worked that hard, one save from Will apart.

That said if you’d have offered a point before the game we’d have certainly taken it as we look forward to Saturday’s game and making sure that we are at least in the hat for Monday’s 3rd Round draw.
