Crewe Alexandra will be seeking a return to form when visiting lowly Colchester United this weekend.

“We have had two poor results and are looking to get going again” – Steve Davis

The Alex have rather stumbled of late following successive league defeats to relegation-threatened duo Portsmouth and Hartlepool United.

New striker Nathan Ellington was expected to come into contention having arrived on a short-term deal until the end of the season after scoring three times on trial.

However, on loan Brad Inman is still out with an ankle injury while Chuks Aneke is a further doubt due to slight tendinitis in his knee. Otherwise, Michael West and Jon Guthrie remain sidelined for the visitors, who currently sit comfortably in fourteenth place in the table.

“Brad is progressing well but this game will come around too quickly for him,” manager Steve Davis told Crewe’s official website. “We hope he will back training with us next week. Chuks is also a doubt. He has some tendinitis in his knee.

“We have had two poor results and are looking to get going again,” he continued. “We have had a good week and a relaxing week. We have a lot of games coming up and the players need to look after themselves. Rest will be important.”

Colchester are without Jabo Ibehre (suspended) and fellow striker Freddie Sears (knee) but loan signings Troy Hewitt (QPR) and Michael Smith (Charlton Athletic) could make debuts.
