Crewe have completed the signing of Morecambe’s David Artell on a two year contract.

The 29 year old centre back put pen to paper this morning having held talks with Dario earlier in the week.

Rotherham born, Artell made his mark at his home town club after coming through the ranks in the late 90’s. He went on to make 40 appearances for the Millers before leaving in 2003. He had spells at Shrewsbury, Chester and Mansfield before signing for Morecambe in 2007.

Whilst at Morecambe he became a mainstay of the Shrimps’ defence, making over 100 appearances in three years and scoring an impressive 14 goals – including eight just last season.

He became an Alex target after a move for Bury’s Ryan Cresswell fell through and, having seen his contract at Morecambe expire, he decided his future lay at Gresty Road.

Artell, who is currently living and studying in Chester, is now set to become the rock of the Alex defence and Dario will be hoping he can sure up a back line that has struggled to keep the Against Column below 70 goals in recent years.

Vital Crewe would like to welcome Artell to Gresty Road.
