|

A first-half hat-trick from Chuma Anene helped Crewe Alexandra beat Sheffield United in the Under-23 Professional Development League at Reaseheath this afternoon with Rio Adebisi and substitute Aaron Lomas completing the 5-star performance.

Manager Alex Morris named Dave Richards in goal with a back 4 of Abdul Djalo, Travis Johnson, Luke Offord and Adebisi in front of him. In midfield, Josh Lundstram and Ollie Finney played centrally with Regan Griffiths and Callum Ainley on the wings while Lewis Reilly partnered Anene up front. On the bench for the Alex were goalkeeper Sam Booth, Connor Heath, Lomas, Joe Robbins and Tyreece Onyeka.

The opening goal of the game came in the 8th minute with Anene getting on the end of a deflected cross before he doubled the lead 8 minutes later after getting on the end of Adebisi’s low-cross. The third was added 10 minutes before the break with Adebisi curling into the top corner before Anene completed his hat-trick into the bottom corner.

The visitors would get a goal back with 15 left to play through Kyron Gordon, flicking in a corner at the near post, before Lomas firing past the keeper with a minute remaining.

The next couple of games for Morris’ men sees Nottingham Forest play at Reaseheath on Monday afternoon before a trip to Runcorn Linnets a couple of days later in the Cheshire Senior Cup.
