Alex Youngsters Go Down To 10-Man Barnsley

|

Connor Heath‘s first-half goal was not enough for Crewe Alexandra to get anything out of their Under-23 Professional Development League game at 10-man Barnsley this afternoon.

With the first team playing in the EFL Trophy tonight, manager Alex Morris was forced to name a much younger side for the game due to a few of the regulars being involved, either from the start or on the bench.

Heath gave the Alex a lead around the half-hour mark from the edge of the area before the hosts levelled 4 minutes later through a Callum Styles free-kick. They would take the lead 8 minutes after the break with another free-kick, this time from Sam Fielding, before they were reduced to 10 men a couple of minutes later following Romal Palmer getting a second yellow card. Their lead would be extended with 22 minutes to play through striker Patrick Schmidt before Styles added his second in the final minute.

The next couple of games for the Under-23s are hosting Millwall at Reaseheath on Monday before a trip to Birmingham City the following Monday.
