Manager Steve Davis was tipping big things from teenager Max Clayton following the honour of picking up a major award this week.

“He will undoubtedly become a top player, but at the moment he wants to do well for Crewe” – Steve Davis

The talented eighteen-year striker was named as the Football League’s Young Player of the Month for August.

His achievement was all the more remarkable as he was only beginning to establish himself as part of the starting eleven at Gresty Road. Davis had already been particularly impressed at the way Clayton had stepped up.

“I am delighted for Max and delighted that his performances and what he has contributed to the team has been recognised,” Davis told
Crewe’s official website. “He will undoubtedly become a top player, but at the moment he wants to do well for Crewe. He wants to get the club as high up the league as he can and score some goals in the process.”
