Crewe Alexandra won’t be abandoning their well-trusted and renowned principles of passing football.

“We will still try to play the football we are recognised for playing” – Steve Davis

That is the promise of manager Steve Davis and follows the recent acquisition of tough-tackling midfielder Anthony Grant on a two-year deal from Stevenage. His disciplinary record over the past seven seasons shows a substantial 77 cards received, including five reds.

“We might play a bit differently – we have more power and pace and we are probably not going to get as many telling passes as we did with Luke [Murphy],” Davis told the Crewe Chronicle. “We might have to get the creativity via the wings or somewhere else, but we are not going to change our philosophy.

“We will still try to play the football we are recognised for playing,” he added. “That won’t change, that’s for sure.”
