Crewe Alexandra are already well on course to beat their own points target for the season according to manager Steve Davis.

“I wanted us to be on 30 points at this stage, but we have exceeded that target by six points” – Steve Davis

The Alex sealed a third triumph in four games at the weekend courtesy of goals from leading scorer Mathias Pogba and centre-back Mark Ellis in their 2-1 success at Oldham Athletic.

And that was sufficient to leave them sitting just below mid-table and currently averaging a point-and-a-half-per-game with 36 accumulated from their opening 24 fixtures. That kind of return has them in turn only three points short of the play-offs.

“I wanted us to be on 30 points at this stage, but we have exceeded that target by six points,” Davis told This is Staffordshire. “We are in a good league position and we will keep pushing ourselves to make sure we keep improving.

“We’ll lose games and have our bad days, but it’s important not to get disheartened,” he warned. “You have to build consistency and put little runs together, which is what we are trying to do.”
