Crewe Alexandra are still waiting on the fitness of a couple of their leading players ahead of their Wembley clash with Southend United in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final on Sunday afternoon (kick-off 1.15pm).

“I’m just glad the game has finally arrived” – Steve Davis

Skipper Luke Murphy has returned to light jogging following his recent groin injury while leading scorer Mathias Pogba limped out of their latest victory against Preston North End with a a thigh problem.

“Murph has done a bit of running and the sounds we are getting from him are quite positive,” manager Steve Davis told the Crewe Chronicle. “We’ll take him down there anyway because he is vital to what we do – our most consistent player. We’re hoping Pogs had more of a cramp than a pull but time will tell.

“I’m just glad the game has finally arrived,” he admitted. “It’s driven me mad because I think it has affected a few of the boys` performances of late. As much as you try to keep it away from them it is always there.”
