Notts County defender Kelvin Wilson has signed for Preston on loan, with a view to a permanent move. Various Crewe scouts have been impressed with Wilson in recent months, though the £1m asking price was considered excessive. The fee at the end of the loan is likely to be considerably less than the asking price, with Notts County having a history of demanding excessive fees for players, such as Paul Heffernan who they later sold for a much lesser sum.

Wilson had previously attracted interest from West Brom, though Arsenal and Chelsea also sent scouts regularly to monitor the youngster. Preston have signed Wilson following Chris Lucketti’s ‘loan’ move to Sheff Utd. Such a ‘loan’ signing provides a loophole in the transfer window regulations, with clubs allowed to loan players with a view to a permanent move.
